China Unicom officially closed a 3-year exclusive deal with Apple to finally market the iPhone to their to 141 million subscriber in China in the hopes to make it bigger than China Mobile.

This deal is starting to get a lot of buzz from the end users who are complaining about China Unicom Mobile iPhone carriers not having Wifi functionality, due to the fact that it is against China telecom rules. Will the iPhones in China have different specs from that of a regular iPhone? Will Apple be removing the wi-fi modules to meet with China Telecom standards? Currently, Chinese subscribers are only enjoying China Unicom services that includes GPRS and 3G.

Chinese subscribers may or may not like the idea of paying more for a China Unicom basic iPhone. With mobile phones being one of the status symbol in the country, perhaps those who can afford will not bother whether it’s a waste of money or not, as long as they are in! More practical users shows their interest in buying the mobile phone through China Unicom HK for a cheaper range of prices.

How long will these iPhones stay intact — knowing the attitude of Chinese people who are geared to probably create their own iPhone, or break the China Unicom GPRS enabled handset and make its functionality go beyond the China Unicom 3g services. Wifi without WAPI, I’m sure though this is not allowed, many are already breaking the rules. Wait til you see a better China iPhone version.
